Fall Semester Begins at Missouri State University;

CAT is here for International Students

8/19/2021

The Fall 2021 semester has begun at Missouri State University, and students are moving into residence halls this weekend, some with the help of their families. Some are moving in with the help of MSU's International Programs staff.  This is the time of year when students, faculty, and staff are full of expectation, and the campus really comes to life.  We are all looking forward to seeing everyone again and joining in all of the campus festivities, games, and events.

For many students, however, moving into a dorm or apartment near campus can be a little bit scary. This is the first time they have lived apart from their families. For international students, it means being a long way away from mom and dad. It's a time to learn how to be independent, how to balance a schedule without a parent to tell you where to go and when. For some students, this can be a challenge. For internationals students, that challenge can be even greater when it is combined with cultural differences,  homesickness, and language barriers.

The Care and Advocacy Team (C.A.T.) at MSU is made up of staff members and student employees of International Programs as well as other departments on campus. C.A.T. begin two years ago to provide support for students who are going through difficult times.  Members of the team are here to help students with anything from academic challenges to language difficulties to even housing issues. Whatever is needed, a C.A.T. team member is available to support a student through tough times.  In fact, this week, the C.A.T. team was busy providing housing supplies to students who needed them...for FREE!
